5x7 Menu Assignment: the instructions required me to have a restaurant name, between 6-8 items, three colors or less, and no more than three typefaces. To add to that, no photography was allowed except for an abstract or subtly textured background. Repetition and contrast were essential for this assignment. Out of the choices given, I opted to do a menu for an ice cream shop. In the process of deciding which direction I was going to take the assignment, I discovered some general textures within Adobe Photoshop. Oddly enough, the base photo for the textured background was a forest. I put multiple filters on the photo and changed the opacity, to get the textured ice-cream-look.
